Police have arrested a 20-year-old woman named Promise Yayra Asamani. She is accused of publishing false news on social media platforms. This action led to her arrest by the IGP’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team.
The incident began on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. A 43-year-old Uber driver, Selasie Kwaku Anthonio, filed a complaint. He reported the matter to the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team.
The driver was concerned about a viral Snapchat post. This post included his photograph. It also contained information that the driver claims is untrue.
Authorities investigated the Uber driver's complaint. They subsequently arrested Asamani in connection with the post.
Asamani has been granted police enquiry bail. This means she is free to go while the police continue their investigation.
The arrest highlights the serious consequences of spreading false information online. Cybercrime units are actively monitoring social media for such violations.
