The Ghana Police Service has arrested three Nigerian nationals in connection with suspected SIM Box fraud following an intelligence-led operation at the Sakumono Ramsar Site in the Greater Accra Region.
Police identified the suspects as Timileyin Fakunle, aged 30, Begun Adedeji, aged 31, and Olamide Roheemot, aged 28. According to authorities, the arrests were made after intelligence indicated the presence of an illegal telecommunications setup being used to bypass licensed networks.
SIM Box fraud involves the use of devices that reroute international calls as local calls, allowing operators to avoid international termination charges. Police say the practice causes significant revenue losses to telecommunications companies and the state.
Preliminary police information indicates that the suspects were apprehended at a location within the Sakumono Ramsar enclave believed to be linked to the alleged operation. Items retrieved during the arrest have not yet been publicly detailed, and police say forensic and technical analysis is ongoing.
Authorities say three additional suspects are currently at large. They have been identified only as Mike, Kpalumi, and a Chinese national known as Tomy. Police say efforts are underway to locate and arrest them to assist with ongoing investigations.
The arrested suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators. Police have not yet disclosed the specific charges that may be preferred, noting that the investigation is still active.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to combating cyber and telecommunications-related crimes and has urged the public to provide credible information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
