Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has explained why Ghana is pushing again for SIM card re-registration. He warned that the current records might have problems.

According to the minister, some of the information in the existing SIM card database may have been obtained dishonestly.

He stated that this compromised data should not be moved into a new system. The minister believes that flawed data cannot be carried forward safely.

This effort is to create a clean and accurate record of all SIM card users in the country.

A reliable database is important for national security and preventing fraud.

The ministry aims to update the system to trustworthy standards.
