Police have arrested a 20-year-old woman named Promise Yayra Asamani. She is accused of publishing false news on social media platforms. The Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team made the arrest.
The incident began on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Selasie Kwaku Anthonio, a 43-year-old Uber driver, reported the matter to the police. He was concerned about a post on Snapchat.
The Snapchat post included Mr. Anthonio's photograph. The accompanying text allegedly contained false information. This led Mr. Anthonio to report the matter to law enforcement.
The Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team investigated the complaint. Based on their findings, they arrested Ms. Asamani. This action was taken to address the alleged false publication.
The Ghana Police Service stated that the arrest is part of efforts to combat misinformation online. They are encouraging citizens to be responsible with their social media activities.
