A coordinated night time operation by the Cyber Security Authority in collaboration with National Security and the Ghana Police Service has resulted in the arrest of 48 suspected cybercrime operatives at Dawhenya in the Ningo Prampram Constituency.
According to security officials, the operation was intelligence led and targeted locations believed to be used for cyber related criminal activity. The arrests were carried out without incident and the suspects were taken into custody for further investigation.
Preliminary interrogation indicates that those arrested are believed to be Nigerian nationals. The group comprises 46 males and two females, according to initial police assessments. Authorities say nationality and immigration status will be formally verified as part of the investigation.
Investigators believe the suspects are linked to a range of cyber related offences. These include romance scams online investment fraud impersonation schemes and illicit online gold trading. Officials say these activities often involve cross border victims and financial losses.
During the operation, officers retrieved several items believed to be connected to the alleged crimes. These include 54 laptops 39 mobile phones one Starlink internet device and eight MTN TurboNet routers. The items have been taken into custody for forensic examination.
Security agencies say the seized equipment will be analysed to identify victims trace financial flows and establish individual roles within the suspected network. Authorities say this process is key to building prosecutable cases.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. Police have not yet announced charges and say suspects will be processed in accordance with the law once enquiries are completed.
The Cyber Security Authority and its partners say the operation forms part of broader efforts to disrupt organised cybercrime networks and protect the public from online fraud.
