A new fire station is now open at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) in Tarkwa. The University worked with the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to build it.
The station aims to make emergency responses quicker and improve safety for everyone in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality. This is according to a Fire Service spokesperson.
The idea for the station came after a serious incident in Appiatse. Lessons from that event showed the need for better fire safety measures.
The new facility will serve both the university campus and the surrounding community. This is a step towards better disaster preparedness in the Western Region.
UMaT officials stated that the collaboration highlights a commitment to student and staff welfare. They also mentioned the importance of community safety.
The GNFS will manage the operations of the fire station. They will provide trained personnel and equipment.
This initiative is expected to reduce response times during fire emergencies. It will also help in preventing future incidents.
