Ghana has destroyed more than 2,000 illegal firearms. These guns were seized by courts or given up during a gun amnesty program. The destruction took place at the Eighth National Arms Destruction Ceremony.
This event was held to observe the United Nations Small Arms Destruction Day. The Ministry of the Interior organized the ceremony.
The destroyed weapons were collected from various sources. They included arms confiscated from criminals and those surrendered by the public.
Officials stated that firearms marked for destruction cannot be used by any security or intelligence agencies in Ghana. This is due to legal, operational, and international rules.
The destruction process ensures that these weapons are permanently out of circulation.
This action is part of Ghana's commitment to reducing the number of illegal guns in the country.
The government aims to improve public safety by removing these dangerous weapons.
