The National Identification Authority (NIA) is launching a new enforcement drive. They will use a taskforce backed by the police.
This taskforce will ensure that institutions are properly verifying Ghana Cards. The NIA wants to stop the practice of accepting photocopies or just looking at the cards.
Biometric verification is now the only accepted method for identity checks. This means using fingerprint or facial recognition technology.
NIA Chief Executive Officer Wisdom Yayra Koku Deku announced the measure. He stated that all public and private institutions must comply.
This includes government agencies and private companies that use the Ghana Card for identification purposes.
The NIA aims to enhance the security and reliability of identity verification across the country.
Failure to comply with the new directive could lead to penalties.
The NIA is committed to ensuring the integrity of the national identification system.
