The Methodist Church Ghana has urged stronger action against illegal mining, known as galamsey. The church warns that the destruction of farmlands and polluted water sources pose serious risks to the nation.

Presiding Bishop Most Rev. Prof. Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu stated that religious institutions cannot remain silent.

He emphasized that the fight against galamsey needs more than just words. It requires real and continuous effort from everyone.

The church highlighted the growing threat galamsey poses to Ghana's future resources and environment.

This call comes as concerns about the environmental impact of illegal mining continue to rise across the country.

The church believes that a conscious and collective effort is necessary to combat the problem effectively.
