The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has announced a new plan to reduce salt in food served in the city. This initiative comes as a response to the rising number of people suffering from high blood pressure.
The Chief Executive Officer, Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, revealed the policy. He stated that it is part of the assembly's efforts to improve public health.
Under the new rules, food establishments will be monitored for their use of salt. The use of openly added salt will be prohibited.
This measure aims to encourage healthier eating habits among the population. High salt intake is a major cause of hypertension.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly hopes this policy will significantly lower the rate of hypertension in the city.
Officials believe that reducing salt consumption is a key step in preventive healthcare.
Further details on the implementation and enforcement of the policy will be released by the KMA.
