The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly KMA plans to reduce salt in food served across the city. This is a new effort to combat rising cases of high blood pressure among residents. The initiative aims to encourage healthier eating habits.
Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, the Chief Executive Officer of KMA, announced the new policy. He stated that excessive salt consumption is a major factor contributing to hypertension.
The policy will prohibit the open offer of certain salt-related products in food establishments. This measure is part of a broader public health strategy for the metropolitan area.
KMA officials believe this policy will lead to a significant decrease in salt intake. This, in turn, is expected to lower the prevalence of hypertension and related heart conditions.
The assembly is working with food vendors and restaurants to ensure compliance. Education campaigns will also be conducted to inform the public about the risks of high salt intake.
