Data journalist Maxwell Mensah has requested an immediate stop to the increasing spread of political misinformation and abuse on social media platforms. He warns that this trend could harm Ghana's democratic process.

Mensah, who heads the Data and Investigations Desk at the Tobinco Group, highlighted the danger of false information swaying public opinion and eroding trust in institutions.

He stated that these online attacks often target individuals and political figures, aiming to create division and confusion among the electorate.

The journalist emphasized that a healthy democracy relies on informed citizens who can access accurate information to make sound decisions.

He called on social media users, political parties, and platform administrators to take responsibility for the content shared online.

Mensah suggested that stricter content moderation policies and increased digital literacy education could help combat the problem.

He urged Ghanaians to critically evaluate information they encounter online and report any instances of misinformation.

The expert believes that collective action is needed to preserve the integrity of Ghana's political discourse.
