All African Union member states have given their unanimous support to an initiative led by President John Dramani Mahama. This initiative seeks to declare the transatlantic slave trade as the gravest crime against humanity.

The proposal also includes a demand for reparations. This means asking for compensation and the return of some items.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa congratulated President Mahama. He also congratulated Ghana for securing this important backing.

The initiative will now be officially presented at the United Nations. This marks a significant step in the ongoing global discussion about historical injustices and their consequences.
