The Bank of Ghana has alerted the public that refusing to accept cedi coins for goods or services is a crime. This action is a violation of the Currency Act, 1964 (Act 242).

Those found guilty of rejecting legal tender risk severe penalties. Penalties include a fine, a jail sentence of up to three years, or both.

This warning serves as a reminder that all cedi coins are legal currency. They must be accepted in all transactions throughout Ghana.

The Bank of Ghana is committed to maintaining the integrity of the Ghanaian currency. This includes ensuring all denominations are used freely in commerce.
