The Association of Ghana Industries or AGI, wants to build small cocoa processing factories. These factories will be in communities where cocoa beans are grown, according to MyJoyOnline.

This plan aims to process the cocoa right where it is grown. This would happen before the beans are sent to other countries. This idea came up at the AGI's National Council Retreat.

Leaders of the AGI said it is important to add more value to cocoa in Ghana. This means making more products from cocoa in Ghana, instead of just exporting raw beans.

The AGI is talking with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Agribusiness about this plan, MyJoyOnline reported. The goal is to make sure Ghana benefits more from its cocoa.

By processing cocoa locally, Ghana can earn more money from its main export. This could also create jobs for people in cocoa farming areas.
