A civil society group has asked the government to stop charging money for people who want to join the police and other security forces. The Center for Public Opinion and Awareness, also known as CenPOA, made this call in a recent statement.

CenPOA believes that requiring applicants to pay fees to apply for jobs in security services is wrong. This practice has been happening for many years.

Agencies like the Ghana Police Service and others have been charging these fees. CenPOA stated that this prevents many qualified Ghanaians from even trying to join.

The group argues that serving the country in a security role should be open to all citizens based on merit. Fees can make it hard for poorer families to have their children apply.

CenPOA hopes the government will listen to their advice. They want recruitment to be fair and accessible to everyone.

The goal is to ensure that the security services can attract the best individuals without financial hindrances.
