An Accra High Court has ordered Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, to begin his defence. He is facing charges related to alleged illegal mining activities.
The court dismissed a request made by his lawyers to halt the case. Justice Audrey Kokuvie Tay made this ruling on Monday.
Mr. Antwi Boasiako, often called Chairman Wontumi, must now present his side of the story.
The ruling means the judicial process will continue for the politician.
