A nineteen year old teenager has been remanded into custody by the Tarkwa Circuit Court following his arrest for alleged involvement in a series of mobile money fraud activities. The suspect whose identity has been noted by the court appeared before the bench after police investigations linked him to multiple complaints from residents in the Tarkwa Nsuaem municipality.

The prosecution informed the court that the suspect allegedly specialized in sophisticated phishing techniques designed to deceive mobile money users. According to the police report the accused would send fraudulent messages or make deceptive calls to victims intending to compromise their personal identification numbers and gain access to their digital wallets.

During the court proceedings the prosecution argued that the suspect should be kept in custody to prevent potential interference with ongoing investigations. The court heard that several electronic devices were recovered from the accused at the time of his arrest and these items are currently undergoing forensic examination by cybercrime experts.

Presiding Judge Her Honour Hathia Ama Manu granted the request for remand after considering the gravity of the allegations and the potential for the suspect to evade legal proceedings. The court emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the digital methods used to facilitate the alleged transactions before the trial continues.

Police authorities have used the opportunity to advise the public against sharing sensitive financial information with unknown individuals. Investigators stated that mobile money fraud remains a significant concern in the region and they are working to dismantle networks that target unsuspecting citizens through electronic means.

The suspect has not yet entered a formal plea to the charges of defrauding by false pretenses and unauthorized access to electronic data. He is expected to reappear in court at a later date once the prosecution has concluded its gathering of evidence and formal statements from the affected victims.
