A Tarkwa Circuit Court presided over by Her Honour Hathia Ama Mano has sentenced twenty four year old Emmanuel Tetteh to fifteen years in prison with hard labor for his involvement in an armed robbery. The GhanaWeb report indicates that the convict was found guilty of robbing a mobile money vendor at knifepoint in broad daylight within the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region.

According to the prosecution led by Chief Inspector Joseph Kojo Appiah and reported by Modern Ghana the incident occurred on Monday when Tetteh approached the victim under the guise of conducting a transaction. The prosecution stated that the convict suddenly produced a knife and threatened to kill the vendor if she did not hand over her proceeds and mobile devices.

The court records as cited by GhanaWeb detail that the convict successfully made away with a sum of three thousand five hundred Ghana Cedis and two mobile phones. A local search led by community members and the Ghana Police Service eventually resulted in the apprehension of Tetteh who was later identified by the victim during investigations.

During the court proceedings the suspect pleaded guilty to the charges of robbery. The presiding judge noted that the stiff sentence was intended to serve as a deterrent to others who might consider similar criminal activities in the growing mobile money sector of Ghana. The Ghana Police Service has not released a separate digital statement but the court outcome was confirmed by local media outlets present at the sentencing.
