The Tarkwa Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Hathia Ama Mano has sentenced 24 year old Isaac Ampah to 20 years imprisonment in hard labor. According to reports from 3News and Citi Newsroom the convict faced charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and robbery following an incident that occurred in April 2024. The court heard that Ampah acted alongside an accomplice who remains at large as of the date of sentencing.
Police prosecutors informed the court that the victim was an employee of a mining firm who was walking toward his residence when the attack happened. The GhanaWeb report on the proceedings indicates that the assailants used a broken bottle to threaten the victim before making away with a Tecno mobile phone valued at 1200 Ghana Cedis and a cash sum of 450 Ghana Cedis. The prosecution stated that the victim sustained injuries during the struggle and was later treated at a local medical facility.
Investigations by the Tarkwa Police Command led to the arrest of Ampah within the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality shortly after the crime was reported. In his statement to the police which was later presented to the court the convict admitted to his role in the robbery. Though he pleaded for leniency during the trial the presiding judge noted the gravity of the offense and the rise of violent robbery cases within mining communities as cited in the official court record.
The sentence is intended to serve as a deterrent to other young people in the Western Region. While Isaac Ampah begins his term at the Tarkwa local prison the Ghana Police Service has confirmed that intelligence operations are ongoing to locate and apprehend the second suspect involved in the case. Authorities have urged residents of Tarkwa to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station to help curb property crime.
