The Tamale District Court presided over by Magistrate Amadu Issifu has ordered the remand of two technicians into police custody. A GhanaWeb report indicates that the suspects were apprehended in connection with the disappearance of solar energy equipment from three separate community clinics in the Northern Region. The prosecution informed the court that the missing items include solar panels and deep cycle batteries intended to provide backup power for essential medical services.

Police investigators stated that the suspects were specifically contracted to maintain the energy infrastructure at the affected facilities. According to a Daily Guide Network report the suspects allegedly used their professional access to dismantle the units under the guise of performing repairs. The theft was discovered when clinical staff noticed the persistent failure of the backup power systems during national grid outages.

The prosecution led by Inspector Bernard Kyei Afari requested the court to deny bail to allow for the recovery of the stolen items. A report from Citi Newsroom confirms that the police are currently tracking several individuals suspected of purchasing the stolen solar components in the local market. The court heard that the actions of the suspects compromised the cold chain storage for vaccines at the rural health centers.

The defense counsel for the technicians argued for bail on the grounds that the suspects were permanent residents and posed no flight risk. However the magistrate sustained the prosecution objection citing the sensitive nature of the infrastructure targeted. The case has been adjourned while investigators continue to search for the remaining equipment and potential accomplices involved in the distribution network.
