A Takoradi District Court presided over by His Worship Thomas K.M. Ahlijah has sentenced a motorist to twenty four months in prison for multiple traffic and criminal offenses. Reports from the Ghana News Agency indicate that the convict faced charges related to reckless driving and the physical assault of a uniformed officer. The court proceedings revealed that the motorist nearly knocked down a traffic warden who was performing official duties at a designated post.
The prosecution stated that the situation escalated when the driver was stopped by law enforcement following the near miss. According to court details shared by Citi Newsroom and the Ghana News Agency the motorist became aggressive during the interaction and physically assaulted a police officer at the scene. This behavior led to immediate arrest and subsequent processing for court on various counts including dangerous driving and resisting lawful arrest.
During the trial the court heard testimonies from the affected officers and witnesses who described the erratic nature of the driving and the unprovoked nature of the assault. The Ghana Police Service maintained through their regional communication channels that such acts of aggression against officers on duty would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The presiding judge noted that the custodial sentence was necessary to serve as a deterrent to other motorists who disregard road safety regulations and the authority of law enforcement.
The identity of the driver was confirmed in court records as a local resident of the Western Region. While the defense requested leniency the court found the evidence of reckless behavior and physical violence sufficient for a maximum custodial term under the current sentencing guidelines for such offenses. The convict has been transported to the Sekondi Central Prisons to begin serving the two year sentence as confirmed by local judicial administrative reports.
