Former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo believes there are too many appeals going to the Supreme Court. She said this practice is slowing down the delivery of justice.

Akuffo explained that some cases reach the Supreme Court through interlocutory appeals. These are appeals on temporary matters while the main case is still being heard in lower courts.

She made these remarks during a discussion on Accra-based Channel One TV. The former Chief Justice highlighted the impact on the judicial system.

The Judicial Service has been working to improve efficiency. However, Akuffo’s comments suggest further reforms may be needed.

Delays in court cases can affect public trust in the justice system. Limiting unnecessary appeals could help speed up the resolution of legal disputes.
