A Kumasi High Court presided over by Justice Priscilla Dekyem has handed a twenty year jail term to a twenty five year old man convicted of robbery. The court heard that the convict attacked a trader in a suburb of Kumasi while she was returning from her place of work.

The prosecution led by State Attorneys argued that the individual used a machete to inflict injuries on the victim during the encounter. He reportedly made away with her handbag containing mobile phones and an unspecified amount of cash meant for her business operations.

During the court proceedings the victim provided a detailed account of the incident and identified the convict as the primary assailant. Medical reports were also submitted to substantiate the injuries the trader sustained during the violent struggle.

The presiding judge noted that the severity of the sentence was intended to serve as a deterrent to other young people engaging in violent crimes within the metropolis. Legal representatives for the convict had earlier pleaded for leniency citing his age as a factor for consideration.

Police officials in the Ashanti Region have welcomed the judgment as a step toward reducing street robberies. They encouraged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station to ensure public safety.

The convict will serve his full term at the Kumasi Central Prison where he has already been transported following the final pronouncement of the court. This case concludes several months of investigations and trial procedures within the regional judicial system.
