A district court in Kumasi has sentenced a food vendor to 20 days in prison. The sentence is for breaking market rules concerning open fires.

The vendor, Kande Seidu, works at the Alabar Market. She was found to have repeatedly ignored official directives.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s Environmental Health Unit had issued a ban on using open fires within the market area.

Seidu’s continued use of open fire led to her prosecution and subsequent jail term. Court officials confirmed the sentence.
