An Accra High Court has granted bail to two staff members of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) who were indicted in connection with the alleged theft of diesel belonging to the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).

The suspects, whose identities were reported in court records as employees of the airport, were arraigned on charges relating to the unlawful removal and misappropriation of fuel, reportedly stolen from GACL storage facilities. The exact quantity of diesel involved in the alleged theft has not been publicly disclosed, but prosecutors described it as significant and linked to internal discrepancies in fuel inventories.

During proceedings, the prosecution opposed bail on grounds that the alleged offence was serious and that the accused might interfere with investigations if not remanded. The State argued that those charged had access to key operational areas and could potentially tamper with evidence or unduly influence witnesses.

However, after hearing arguments from both sides, the High Court granted bail to the two accused. The bail was set with a GH¢30,000 bond for each defendant, with additional conditions including sureties and reporting requirements to ensure their continued appearance in court.

The court’s ruling formally ordered that both defendants report regularly to the court registry and surrender their passports to avoid absconding before the next hearing. The return date for substantive trial proceedings was scheduled but has not been publicly announced.
