An Accra Circuit Court has remanded two individuals into police custody for their suspected roles in a violent land dispute within the Kasoa area. According to a MyJoyOnline report the suspects face charges including assault and the illegal possession of firearms following a clash that occurred last week. The proceedings were conducted to allow the Ghana Police Service more time to conclude their investigations into the matter.

The incident reportedly left several residents with various degrees of injury after a group alleged to be land guards engaged in a confrontation over a disputed piece of land. A Citi Newsroom report indicates that the local community has frequently expressed concerns over the presence of armed groups involved in property disputes. The court presided over the case after hearing the initial facts presented by the prosecution regarding the nature of the violence.

According to a GhanaWeb report the police recovered specific items during the arrest including weapons allegedly used during the disturbance. The identities of the suspects have been recorded by the court registry although their full biological details remain under verification by the investigative team. The prosecution argued for remand on the basis that the suspects might interfere with ongoing efforts to apprehend other accomplices who are currently at large.

Legal counsel for the accused sought bail citing their willingness to cooperate with the authorities. However the presiding judge denied the application and ordered the suspects to be held until a future hearing date. This decision aligns with recent police statements regarding the strict enforcement of laws against land guard activities in the Central Region and Greater Accra Region. The case is expected to return to the circuit court as the state prepares its full evidence package against the individuals.
