The Kasoa Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Ebenezer Osei Darko has handed a twenty year prison sentence to twenty-five year old Emmanuel Osei for robbery. According to a Graphic Online report the convict was found guilty of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery following a trial that detailed his involvement in a violent operation within the Kasoa area.
Official court records cited by GhanaWeb indicate that the incident occurred when Osei and his accomplices broke into a residential property armed with illegal firearms and other offensive weapons. The prosecution stated that the group threatened the occupants before making away with various electronic gadgets and an undisclosed amount of cash. The Ghana Police Service corroborated these details through their initial arrest report which highlighted the recovery of some stolen items from the suspect.
During the sentencing hearing the judge noted the increasing incidence of violent crime in Kasoa as a factor for the stiff penalty. A report by Citi Newsroom mentioned that the prosecution successfully proved that Osei acted with premeditation and displayed extreme aggression during the commission of the crime. The defense plea for a lighter sentence was dismissed because of the gravity of the charges and the use of lethal weapons according to court proceedings.
While Emmanuel Osei has started his term at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison authorities are still pursuing his accomplices who remain at large. The Ghana Police Service has issued a statement urging the public to provide information leading to the arrest of the remaining suspects involved in this specific residence breach. The court emphasized that this sentence should serve as a deterrent to other young individuals involved in organized criminal activities within the Central Region.
