A High Court located in Ho has delivered a final judgment in a case involving the ritual murder of a twelve year old boy. The court sentenced two young men to death by hanging after they were found guilty of the crime which occurred in 2021. The presiding judge noted that the evidence presented by the prosecution proved the guilt of the accused persons beyond reasonable doubt during the trial process.

According to the facts presented during the proceedings the convicts lured the young victim into a secluded area where the fatal act was committed. The prosecution argued that the motive behind the killing was related to ritual purposes. This claim was supported by various testimonies and forensic evidence gathered by the police during the initial investigation phase of the case.

The defense counsel had previously argued for leniency but the court maintained that the nature of the crime required the maximum penalty under current laws. The judgment follows several months of deliberations and testimony from various witnesses including family members of the deceased and law enforcement officers who handled the arrest of the suspects.

Community members present at the court expressed a sense of relief following the pronouncement of the sentence. The case had generated significant public interest in the Volta Region since the news of the disappearance and subsequent discovery of the remains of the twelve year old boy first reached the public domain over two years ago.

The convicts will remain in custody pending the execution of the court order. Legal experts indicate that while the death penalty remains on the statute books for certain capital offenses the actual execution of such sentences in Ghana has been rare in recent decades. The sentence highlights the ongoing efforts of the judiciary to address violent crimes and ritual activities within the country.
