Four men have been remanded by the Accra Circuit Court Eight. They face charges related to illegal sand winning.
The accused are Kofi Atiemo, 38, Ebenezer Tetteh Gyablatey, 32, John Hayford, 48, and Ebenezer Kwafo, 31. All four men reside at Teacher Mantey, near Amasaman.
Atiemo and Gyablatey are unemployed. Hayford and Kwafo work as drivers. They were arrested for their alleged involvement in sand winning activities.
The court heard that the sand winning operations allegedly caused damage to crops in the area. The extent of the crop damage is part of the ongoing investigation.
The prosecution presented the charges to the court. The defence team made their arguments regarding bail.
The judge considered the arguments from both sides. The court decided to remand the four accused individuals.
This decision was made to allow for further investigations into the matter. The police are gathering more evidence related to the illegal activities.
The case has been adjourned to a later date. The accused are expected to reappear in court then.
