A Kasoa Circuit Court presided over by Judge Roy Oppong Akonji has remanded five men into police custody on charges related to prohibited land guard activities. A report by MyJoyOnline indicates the suspects were apprehended for their alleged involvement in terrorizing land developers and destroying building structures within the Gomoa Fetteh area of the Central Region.
According to details shared by Citi Newsroom the accused persons were identified as Sumaila Dauda and Yakubu Fasiru along with three others. The prosecution stated that the group allegedly used offensive weapons to threaten workers at a construction site. This version of events aligns with a GhanaWEB report which noted that the arrests were part of a wider police crackdown on land guards in the Gomoa East District.
The court heard that the suspects allegedly demolished several foundation walls at the site before their arrest by a police patrol team. Counsel for the accused requested bail during the proceedings but the court denied the application. MyJoyOnline reported that the presiding judge cited the need for the police to conclude their forensic investigations and ensure the safety of the witnesses involved in the case.
The Ghana Police Service has not yet issued a formal press release on the specific items seized from the suspects but verbal testimonies in court mentioned the presence of heavy tools used for demolition. The suspects are expected to remain in custody until the next court hearing scheduled for late October. Authorities emphasized that land guard activities remain illegal under the Land Act of 2020 which carries stiff penalties for those found guilty of such offences.
