The Koforidua District Court ordered the remand of five suspects connected to the violent death of a local traditional ruler in the Eastern Region. According to a Citi Newsroom report the deceased was identified as Nana Kwadwo Boadi III who served as the sub chief of Adenta near Tinkong. The suspects were apprehended following a police investigation into a clash rooted in a long standing land dispute within the area.

Police prosecutors informed the court that the incident occurred when a group of armed individuals allegedly attacked the victim on his property. A GhanaWeb report indicates that the attack resulted in fatal injuries to the sub chief while others at the scene sustained various degrees of harm. The Ghana Police Service stated that preliminary findings link the violence to disagreements over the boundaries of communal land and private holdings.

The court presided over by His Worship Nana Ama Paibi did not take the pleas of the accused persons during the initial appearance. According to an ADOM Online report the prosecution requested more time to conclude forensic investigations and to track down additional suspects believed to be at large. The names of the five individuals held in custody have been recorded in the court dockets as part of the formal committal process.

Counsel for the defendants argued for bail on the grounds that the suspects would cooperate with the ongoing investigations. However the magistrate denied the application citing the severity of the charges and the potential for witness interference. The case has been adjourned to allow the police to file the necessary witness statements and evidence ahead of the next hearing date as reported by various local news outlets.
