Democracy Hub filed a suit in the High Court asking for an order against the Electoral Commission. The group wants the Commission to reject the nomination of Baba Jamal. Mr. Jamal is the National Democratic Congress candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election.
The group claims there were widespread incidents of vote buying. These incidents reportedly happened during the by-election on February 7.
The Ayawaso East by-election is scheduled for March 3. The court action aims to challenge the legitimacy of Mr. Jamal's candidacy.
The Electoral Commission has not yet commented on the legal challenge. The court will now consider the prayer from Democracy Hub.
