The Accra High Court has ruled that Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the New Patriotic Party's Ashanti regional chairman, must now present his defence in a case related to illegal mining. He is widely known as Chairman Wontumi.

This directive from the court was made on Monday, March 16. The case involves allegations of illegal mining activities on a concession located in Samreboi, within the Western Region of Ghana.

Chairman Wontumi and his company, Akonta Mining, are the parties expected to respond to these charges.

The Judicial Service mandates that individuals accused of legal infractions have the opportunity to defend themselves.

This development signifies a step forward in the legal process concerning allegations of illegal mining.
