A High Court in Accra has instructed Bernard Antwi Boasiako, who is also the NPP Ashanti regional chairman, to present his defence. This decision comes in relation to a case involving illegal mining activities.
The mining activities are alleged to have taken place on a concession belonging to Chairman Wontumi at Samreboi, located in the Western Region.
The court made this order on Monday, March 16. Chairman Wontumi and his company, Akonta Mining, are involved in this case.
The Judicial Service did not provide further details on the specific charges or the evidence presented by the prosecution.
This legal action stems from concerns over illegal mining, often referred to as galamsey, which has been a significant environmental and legal issue in Ghana.
