The Accra High Court has ordered Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, to start his defence in a case about illegal mining. He is the Ashanti regional chairman for the NPP political party.
The court's decision came on Monday, March 16. The illegal mining charges relate to a concession at Samreboi in the Western Region.
Chairman Wontumi and his company, Akonta Mining, are involved in this legal matter. The court's order means they must now present their side of the story.
This legal action follows investigations into mining activities on the land. The Judicial Service made the order requiring the defence to begin.
