The Adentan Fafraha District Court has ordered musician Black Sherif to pay GH¢229,500 in unpaid rent following a claim by his landlord that he defaulted on rent payments for his Accra residence.
According to proceedings in court, the landlord told the court that the tenant had not paid rent since August 2024, leading to the accumulation of arrears amounting to GH¢229,500. The landlord subsequently initiated legal action to recover the outstanding amount.
Court records indicate that Black Sherif could not be personally reached to be served with court processes. As a result, the court permitted substituted service, with hearing notices posted at the rented property and at the court premises, in line with procedure.
Despite the notices, the musician did not appear in court, and the matter proceeded in his absence. The court ordered him to pay the outstanding rent arrears as claimed.
In addition to the arrears, the court directed that Black Sherif is to continue paying rent at a monthly rate of 1,700 United States dollars until he vacates the property. The court noted that the order is intended to prevent further accumulation of debt while the tenancy subsists.
The case has not been concluded. The court is expected to continue hearing the matter, particularly on enforcement and any further reliefs sought by the landlord. No statement from Black Sherif or his legal representatives was available at the time of reporting.
The court’s order relates strictly to the landlord-tenant dispute before it. All parties retain the right to take further legal steps permitted under the law.
