A thirty four year old teacher appeared before the Cape Coast Circuit Court following accusations of repeated sexual assault involving a fourteen year old junior high school student. According to a MyJoyOnline report the presiding judge ordered the suspect to be remanded into police custody to allow for further investigations into the matter. The identity of the teacher is being withheld by some outlets to protect the legal process while official court documents reflect the serious nature of the charges.

The prosecution stated that the alleged incidents occurred over a period of time before the victim informed authorities. A report by Citi Newsroom indicates that the student provided a detailed account of the events which led to the immediate arrest of the educator by the Ghana Police Service. The court heard that medical examinations were conducted to gather forensic evidence which will be presented during the trial phase of the proceedings.

During the court session the defense sought bail for the accused person but the request was denied. According to a GhanaWeb report the court cited the gravity of the offense and the potential for interference with witnesses as primary reasons for keeping the suspect in custody. The judge emphasized that the protection of the minor is a priority for the judicial system during cases of this nature.

The case has been adjourned until mid February when the prosecution is expected to present additional witnesses and evidence. Legal representatives for the suspect maintain the presumption of innocence while the Ghana Education Service has been notified of the ongoing criminal proceedings. The Cape Coast Circuit Court will continue to hear arguments as the state prepares its full case against the teacher.
