A Cape Coast Circuit Court presided over by Her Honour Catherine Osei-Asare remanded three suspects into police custody following a violent clash near the University of Cape Coast campus. According to reports from Modern Ghana and the Ghana News Agency the suspects face charges related to land guard activities and causing unlawful damage. The court proceedings followed an incident at Apewosika where rival groups allegedly engaged in a physical confrontation over a disputed land boundary.

The prosecution stated that the accused persons were part of a group that visited the site to enforce a claim on the property. This led to a violent encounter that caused distress to residents and students in the surrounding area. The Ghana News Agency reported that the police intervention prevented the situation from escalating further after locals raised an alarm regarding the presence of armed individuals patrolling the disputed zone.

During the court session the prosecution requested more time to conclude investigations and to identify other accomplices who are currently at large. The Daily Graphic reported that the defence counsel requested bail for the accused persons claiming they were legitimate caretakers of the land. However the court denied the bail application to ensure the suspects do not interfere with the ongoing police inquiry into the matter.

The Central Regional Police Command confirmed through official statements that the crackdown on land guard activities is part of a broader security initiative to maintain order in the region. According to the Ghana Police Service the suspects are expected to reappear in court on a later date to face specific charges under the Land Act 2020 which criminalises the use of force or threats to claim land interests. The identities of the suspects were withheld by some outlets pending further verification of their official documentation.
