The Cape Coast High Court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Lodoh has sentenced a thirty four year old man identified as Isaac Kwesi Mensah to death by hanging. According to a Graphic Online report the convict was found guilty of murdering his business partner in 2022 following a disagreement related to their shared commercial interests in the Central Region.

A seven member jury delivered a unanimous guilty verdict against Mensah after evaluating evidence presented by the state prosecution. The Ghana News Agency reported that the convict killed the victim and buried the remains in a shallow grave near a rubber plantation situated at Assin Fosu. Police investigators recovered the body after the victim had been reported missing by family members according to official police records mentioned during the trial.

The prosecution led by State Attorney Vincent Nyinaku argued that the accused lured the deceased to the location under the guise of an investment meeting before the fatal attack occurred. Court documents cited by GhanaWeb indicate that several forensic items including a bloodstained implement were recovered from the scene and used as exhibits during the proceedings.

While Ghana has maintained a moratorium on executions for several decades the presiding judge noted that the death penalty remains the mandate under the current sentencing guidelines for murder convictions. The Graphic Online report indicates that the defense counsel intended to explore options for an appeal based on the circumstances of the case while the convict remains in custody awaiting further legal directives.
