An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a forty five year old businessman following allegations of a significant financial fraud involving a real estate transaction. The accused appeared before the court to face charges related to the alleged defrauding of an investor under the pretext of facilitating a land acquisition deal.
According to the prosecution the suspect collected a total sum of GHS 2 million from the complainant. This substantial amount was purportedly intended to cover the costs of securing prime land for a large scale real estate development project within the capital region. The prosecution alleges that the businessman failed to provide the land as promised and did not refund the money.
The accused individual entered a plea of not guilty to the charges leveled against him. His legal representation sought bail during the initial proceedings however the presiding judge opted to remand the suspect into custody. This decision ensures the presence of the accused as the state prepares its full evidentiary case for the upcoming trial phase.
The victim in this matter reportedly reported the case to the authorities after several attempts to recover the investment yielded no results. Investigative officers stated that the funds were transferred in various installments over a specific period before the complainant realized the transaction was potentially fraudulent.
The court has scheduled the next hearing to allow for further witness testimony and the presentation of financial documents related to the bank transfers. The suspect will remain in police custody until the next adjourned date as the judicial process continues to examine the merits of the allegations presented by the state.
