Eight people were found guilty of open defecation by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Sanitation Court. The court fined the individuals GH¢600 each.

Seven of the convicted individuals were remanded to prison. This happened because they failed to pay their fines. They are Samuel Aryeequaye, Evans Derry, Kwesi Milla, Richard Quintin Coffie, Seidu Aminu, Awuaaba Michael, and Quarcoo Ernest.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly stated that the eighth person paid their fine. This individual was then released.

Judicial Service records confirm the convictions and subsequent actions. This was part of ongoing efforts to improve public sanitation in Accra.

Open defecation is against sanitation laws in Ghana. Offenders face fines or prison time.

Authorities continue to urge residents to use proper toilet facilities.
