The Accra Circuit Court has ordered the remand of two businessmen suspected of orchestrating a gold fraud scheme that targeted a foreign investor. The suspects appeared before the presiding judge to answer charges related to the alleged theft of one point two million dollars through a deceptive mining transaction.

According to the prosecution the accused persons presented themselves as legitimate gold dealers capable of supplying twenty kilograms of gold bars. The state alleges that the foreign investor transferred the funds based on these representations but did not receive the promised cargo after the payment was processed.

Police investigators revealed that the transaction was facilitated through various meetings where the suspects allegedly displayed gold samples to convince the victim of the authenticity of the deal. Follow up investigations led to the arrest of the two men after the investor filed a formal complaint with the authorities regarding the missing funds.

Legal counsel for the accused persons requested bail arguing that their clients were prepared to cooperate with the ongoing investigation and would not flee the jurisdiction. The prosecution opposed the request stating that the magnitude of the loss and the risk of interfering with witnesses necessitated continued detention.

The presiding judge ultimately denied the bail application and remanded the suspects to reappear in court on a later date. Police officials have confirmed that the investigation remains active as they look for potential accomplices who may have assisted in the massive financial transaction.
