An Accra Circuit Court has ordered the remand of three individuals into police custody on charges related to an alleged gold fraud scheme in the capital city. The prosecution stated that the accused persons acted together to defraud a foreign investor of two hundred thousand dollars under the guise of selling him quantities of gold bars.

According to official court proceedings the complainant expressed interest in purchasing gold from Ghana and was introduced to the suspects. The group reportedly presented the investor with documentation and physical samples meant to prove the authenticity of their mineral stock. Trusting these representations the investor transferred the significant sum of money to the suspects for the purchase of the bars.

The prosecution informed the court that the individuals failed to provide the gold as agreed and subsequently became evasive when the investor demanded his goods or a refund. Following a formal complaint filed with the police authorities launched an investigation which led to the arrest of the three suspects in Accra. The identities of the accused persons have been documented as part of the ongoing criminal trial.

During the court session the presiding judge denied bail applications submitted by the defense counsel. The court held that the gravity of the offense and the ongoing nature of the police investigation necessitated that the suspects remain in custody. This decision aims to ensure that the accused do not interfere with potential witnesses or evidence required for the trial.

The defense team has maintained the innocence of their clients and indicated their intention to file for bail at a later date. The suspects are scheduled to reappear before the court to hear additional testimony and for the prosecution to present further evidence. Police officials have used this case to remind foreign investors to conduct thorough due diligence through the Minerals Commission before engaging in gold transactions.
