The Accra Circuit Court has ordered the remand of a forty five year old man for his alleged involvement in a land fraud scheme valued at two hundred thousand Ghana cedis. The suspect appeared before the court to face charges related to defrauding by false pretenses and issuing false documents in connection with a property transaction in East Legon.

According to the prosecution the suspect approached a local businessman with an offer to sell two acres of prime land located in the Greater Accra Region. The complainant reportedly paid the full sum of two hundred thousand Ghana cedis after being presented with documents that the prosecution claims were fraudulent or unauthorized.

The court heard that the businessman discovered the discrepancy when he attempted to take possession of the land only to find that other parties held legitimate claims to the property. Efforts by the complainant to recover his funds from the suspect proved unsuccessful which led to a formal report being filed with the police service.

The presiding judge declined bail for the suspect at this stage of the proceedings noting the severity of the allegations and the need for the police to finalize their evidence gathering. The suspect has not yet entered a formal plea to all charges as the legal process remains in its preliminary stages.

Law enforcement officials have urged members of the public to exercise extreme caution when engaging in high value real estate transactions. They recommend verifying all land titles at the Lands Commission and ensuring that legal representatives oversee the signing of purchase agreements to prevent falling victim to similar scams.

The case has been adjourned and the suspect will remain in custody until the next court sitting date. The prosecution is expected to call witnesses and present further evidence regarding the origin of the land documents and the movement of the funds in question during the upcoming trial sessions.
