The Accra Circuit Court has remanded a forty five year old man into police custody following allegations of a significant land fraud scheme totaling five hundred thousand Ghana Cedis. The prosecution stated that the accused person approached an estate developer with a proposal to sell four plots of land situated in the East Legon area.

Evidence presented in court suggested that the suspect presented himself as the legitimate owner with the authority to dispose of the property.

According to the facts of the case the complainant expressed interest in the land and subsequently made a full payment of the agreed sum. The prosecution alleged that after receiving the funds the suspect failed to provide the necessary documentation or grant the developer access to the site.

Investigations later revealed that the land in question did not belong to the accused person and was not available for sale as previously claimed.

During the court proceedings the presiding judge refused bail applications from the defense counsel citing the gravity of the offense and the need for further police inquiries. The prosecution noted that additional victims may come forward as the investigation into the activities of the suspect continues. The court emphasized that the suspect remains innocent until proven guilty by a competent legal body.

The defense argued for bail on the grounds that the accused has a fixed place of abode and would not interfere with the judicial process. However the court maintained that the suspect should remain in custody to ensure his presence for future hearings. The case has been adjourned to a later date for the formal filing of witness statements and the commencement of the trial phase.
