An Accra Circuit Court presided over by Judge Isaac Addo remanded forty five year old businessman Eric Gyamfi into custody following his appearance on fraud charges. According to a Daily Graphic report the suspect is accused of defrauding an investor of two million Ghana Cedis after promising to secure parcels of land located in the Greater Accra Region for architectural development.

Prosecutors informed the court that the complainant sought to invest in real estate and paid the substantial sum to the accused in various installments starting in early 2023. A GhanaWeb report states that the businessman presented himself as an authorized agent with the capacity to transfer land titles but failed to produce any valid documentation after receiving the funds.

The prosecution led by Chief Inspector Samuel Agyakwa argued against bail on the grounds that investigations into the movement of the funds are still active. The court heard that when the complainant demanded proof of the land purchase or a refund the suspect allegedly went into hiding until his recent arrest by the Ghana Police Service according to details provided in the official charge sheet.

The defense counsel requested bail for the accused and stated that the matter was a civil transaction rather than a criminal offense. However the judge denied the application for bail to allow the police to complete their verification of bank statements and land ownership records. The case is scheduled to resume later this month for further hearing on the evidence provided by the prosecution.
